Description

This mesmerizing top-down drone shot captures the crater formed during the 2021 eruption of Fagradalsfjall volcano in Iceland. The circular shape of the crater, reminiscent of the ‘Sauron Eye’ from Lord of the Rings, is highlighted by the glowing red lava, resembling the fiery gaze of the iconic character. During the eruption, the volcano exhibited geyser-like behavior, erupting on average every 5 to 10 minutes. This shot captures a moment of rest between eruptive phases, with glowing red lava remnants visible from previous eruptions. The eruption, which began on March 19, 2021, marked the first volcanic activity in the area in over 800 years.
